OUR MISSION IS TO ADVOCATE FOR IMPROVED BENEFITS FOR ALL TEXAS RETIREMENT SYSTEM ACTIVE AND RETIRED PERSONNEL AND TO PROMOTE THE WELL-BEING OF ALL ITS MEMBERS THROUGH CIVIC AWARENESS AND ACTIVE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

WHAT DO WE DO?

Representing Comal Texas Retired Teacher Association Annuitants, OUR PURPOSE IS TO support state association efforts on working with the Texas Legislature and United States Congress to protect, promote and defend the interests of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas members. Locally, we organize members to deliver the benefits of the state campaigns to the teachers (Active or Retired) and students of Texas.

HOW DO WE GET THIS DONE?

Donations and sponsorships, help our 501c (3) organization, service CISD students, teachers, and TRS retirees in COMAL county.  Association CAMPAIGNS are DESIGNED TO ENHANCE EDUCATION FOR Texas STUDENTS AND PROVIDE AN ACTIVE RETIREMENT FOR EDUCATIONAL RETIREES. We WELCOME donations and SPONSORSHIPS FOR OUR FUNDRAISERS and BENEFIT PROGRAMS.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE?

Due to TRTA’s strong advocacy efforts during the 88th Legislative Session, the Texas Legislature appropriated revenue designated for a TRS retiree cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). Texas voters PASSED a constitutional amendment authorizing this much-needed COLA!

In 2024, the U.S. Congress and Senate passed H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, repealing the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). On January 5, 2025, President Joe Biden signed H.R. 82, making repeal of GPO and WEP the law of the land. This bipartisan effort eliminates arbitrary federal provisions that enhanced the retirement benefits of many TRS annuitants.
